If you’ve spent any time on the music blogs or social networks lately, there’s a good chance you’ve noticed Azealia Banks making the rounds. She can be spotted everywhere from the latest record release parties to hanging out with Karl Lagerfeld at Fashion Week. With her smooth flow, stylish looks and pro attitude, she’s bound to blow up soon. Get to know her now so you can say you “knew her when…”

More about Azealia Banks:

Azealia Banks is a 20-year-old lyricist from Harlem, NYC. Since her first steps as a child in off-broadway theatre productions to her training at La Guardia High School of Performing Arts -a breeding ground for stars- she’s been steadily perfecting her craft and making a name for herself.

Her very first recording “Seventeen” placed her on the radar of many record labels right away. Word about Miss Banks kept spreading online and in the streets until she caught the eye of several record labels and tastemakers. Classically trained in the Performing Arts, Banks is a truly versatile artist, as showcased on tracks like the infectious Fader co-signed “L8R” and her celebrated cover of Interpol’s “Slow Hands”. A collaboration on the Major

Lazer EP and her appearance in the Nike Sportswear 1Love video series upped her profile in the past couple of years and kept fans waiting in anticipation for her next release.

Now prepping her debut album, Azealia has been teasing her audience with gems like “212″ – a certified club pleaser on rotation in dance floors around the globe- in addition to a slew of other records that showcase her range as an artist and will let people know what all the buzz is about. Whether her music hits you with seasoned bars or her angelic voice and hooks, Azealia Banks gives everybody a reason to rewind that track.

The music industry is so full of boasting and big egos that it’s refreshing to come across an artist who is both talented and down to earth. Tay Dizm is that kind of artist. His friendship with T-Pain has been a bonus, but at the end of the day, you have to stand on your own. Tay Dizm may have gotten his start in Miami, but there’s no limit to how far his skills and charisma are going to take him. Watch for him at a gig near you.

More on Tay Dizm:

Tay Dizm, songwriter and artist, is the blooming threat in pop-hip-hop music. The down to earth and high energy Miami artist ignites the world one city at a time. This incomparable artist -born Artavious Smith- has made a name for himself with his animated stage presence and humble spirit. “Talk to me and I’ll talk back,” he says.

In 2003, the Miami-native began his journey in Tallahassee, FL with best friend, T-Pain. The two traveled the globe extensively for close to four years, before Tay Dizm was ready to become an artist in his own right. Tay Dizm was able to jumpstart his career by appearing on two of T-Pain’s albums, Rappa Ternt Sanga (2005) and Epiphany (2007). When it came time to pick his first artist to represent his brand new venture Nappy Boy Digital, Pain chose Tay Dizm. He was also handpicked to appear on hard-hitting tracks which includes “She Got It” with 2 Pistols, “Who Da F*** is Dat” with Dolla which charted on the Billboard Year-End Hot 100 singles of 2008. Tay Dizm also appeared on “G-5” with Huey. The release of his first single in August 2008 “Beam Me Up,” which featured T-Pain and Rick Ross has brought him into the limelight.

A strong push at nationwide radio mix shows has helped him gain a strong fan base. The eccentric artist began focusing more on his solo career in 2009 which also was the release of his second single “Dream Girl,” featuring Akon. It was a global success with over 16.2 million views on YouTube. With Tay Dizm’s first leak “Smoke” ft T-Pain, produced by Mr. Beatz ( YMCMB producer) off his “Thank you For Being a Friend” all over the internet, the world is now hearing the best of what Tay Dizm has to offer. As he moves forward in this New Year, the Tay Dizm sound is catching on worldwide. With several awards at his side, including the 2008 songwriting award from ASCAP, and four hot new singles to be released this year, nothing can stop him.

Tay Dizm’s mixtape “Thank You for Being a Friend” was released February 17, 2011, presented by Coast 2 Coast DJ’s and Datpiff.com via Nappy Boy Digital. With a strong love for every individual fan he has, the mixtape cover will be an abstract colleague of pictures of his fans forming Tay Dizm’s face. As a follow up project to his mixtape, Dizm has a new street anthem “Gettin’ to the Money” featuring T-Pain and J-Bo which has spread virally. The energetic artist that fuses pop and rock into his music is making a buzz and the world is now receiving what Dizm has to offer.

“This is what we doing and this is where we going,” says Tay Dizm.

It’s been over a decade since Napster first turned the music industry upside down. CNN recently published an article on the digital sales topping physical sales for the first time since the format shook things up.

As Laurie Segall writes on CNNMoney, “According to a Nielsen and Billboard report, digital music purchases accounted for 50.3% of music sales in 2011. Digital sales were up 8.4% from the previous year, while physical album sales declined 5%.”

The article also includes some insight from Headliner CEO Mike More. Check his quote below and click over to the article for the rest of the story.

Digital music sales top physical sales

Mike More, CEO of Headliner.fm, says the future may not be digital sales. More cites Spotify’s model as the music consumption of the future, where he says more consumers will pay for access to music streaming services rather than purchasing songs.

“I think you have a whole generation who doesn’t care if they own anything,” he says. “Accessibility has become paramount. This is what consumers want — they want it everywhere and on all their devices.”

Kevin Lazaroff (producer/engineer), Jon Packles (producer/engineer), Eric Alvarado (rapper), and Travis Dickerson (rapper)

It all started in 12th grade English class when Kevin and Travis met up and discovered a shared passion for music. After recording a demo together, they showed it to Jon and Eric (who had been working on some demos of their own). From there White Lighters was crafted over the course of 3 hardworking weeks in Kevin’s basement recording studio on a $0 budget. The A-Team’s debut mixtape, White Lighters was filled with fun lyrics about life aspirations, and the joy of growing up. Since then, with college approaching they have released a music video for “The A-Team” and played with artists such as OCD: Moosh & Twist and Julius Myth – and this is just the beginning of a new hip-hop scene… one with a soon-to-be ubiquitous question: “Are you fuckin’ with The A-Team?!” Check them out!

As we close out 2011, we took a look back at Headliner’s growth.

As expected, the top 10 list of artists with the most reach included some famous names like Pitbull and Diddy, but it also included many independent artists. In fact, the top two slots went to Steve Ryan and Incolide, proving that you don’t need a lot of money to share your music online.

It wouldn’t hurt, but in the meantime, why not fund your online promotion using your social currency? The more your fans like, share, retweet, and comment on your posts online, the better your social currency. Deep reach and high engagement are key to building a supportive community of fans that will act as ambassadors for your music.

Check out our infograph below summarizing how Headliner helps artist like Steve Ryan and Incolide make the most of their social currency to promote their music online.

As the song goes, “You don’t have to be a star, baby, to be in our show.”

Some musicians have always known what they wanted to do and dreamt of it as far back as they can remember dreaming. Others find their way to it by sometimes unexpected paths. However you come to your musical awakening, chances are once you’re there, you can’t imagine being anywhere else. Today’s Headliner of the day is Southern California native, Ray Molina.

“During the past 5 years though I have lived in Helsinki, Finland, London, England and of course within SoCal. My career (sport scientist) took me to those places, but I have DJed for 14 years, and whilst in those places was fortunate to feel the culture of electronic dance music, especially the European side.

It was not till last year whilst living in London to get my Masters degree that I serendipitously polished my DJ skills and started getting my feet wet with production. This happened because the topic of my dissertation involved helping an established producer/DJ and A&R man improve his performance (thats a whole ‘nother story!). My research for my Masters degree helped polish my own personal DJ skills by being around the culture; upon my completion of my dissertation I began a blog and making mixes under the series, “Pirate Satellite”.

In March I will return to London, and I am in the works of confirming a VERY big date.”

Check out Ray’s beats at his links below, and keep an eye out for promotion requests from him. As he has already proven, Ray is a go-getter, and will go wherever he needs to in order to make his dreams a reality.

RootMusic analyzed how the top 250 musicians on Facebook work the platform and posted the results with the chart below.

Some key findings you should try to apply to your own band’s use of social media:

7 out of 10 of the most popular pages on FB were musician pages

On average, the top 250 artists post 1.6 times a day

Fans engage with the Facebook wall more than the Band Page (35% vs 31%)

The top 3 genres were Pop (29%), Rock (28%) and Hip Hop (12%)

The key take-aways as always are: music is one of the most popular types on content on the social web and artists that engage their fan base consistently are the most successful. Headliner can help you amplify your message by introducing you to audiences that already like music like yours through compatible musicians. Where you take that introduction is entirely up to you, but hopefully this data will inspire you to engage them directly and frequently.
