Swedish Study Confirms Artist Revenue Rising

    swedish music industry

Earlier this month, we had an entry on a study from the UK which graphed artist income vs. label income. The graph showed that even as revenue plummets for labels, artists have seen theirs increase. A new study of the Swedish music industry reveals a similar result: artists are getting more money as labels collapse. One issue regarding the relevance of the data is that the raw data is not available, meaning that it is impossible to tell if artist income is increasing only for established groups who fill arenas and falling for emerging acts. Either way, this data disproves a lot of music industry common knowledge. I am eagerly anticipating the release of a US version of this study.

    Hind

$60,000 is more than most people make in 11 months, but Dutch pop singer Hind just made $60,000 in 11 days. How did she do it? Hind did it through contributions on Sellaband, an online fundraising website for musicians. Hind needed funds to record a new album, and decided to do it using Sellaband, on the site she was able to successfully solicit contributions from fans living in over 50 countries.
